About Us

The Denton Writers’ Critique Group was founded in February 2009 by Jack Pettie, with the help of librarian Carmen Grant, under the name North Branch Writers’ Critique Group. After seven terrific years at the Denton Public Library, in March 2016 we moved to our current location at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center. We’re now an organizational member of the Greater Denton Arts Council.

We are writers who are dedicated to improving our craft and who share the ultimate goal of publication. We write in a diverse assortment of genres: fantasy, comedy, horror, contemporary, mystery, romance, young adult, and much more. We primarily write creative prose: novels, novellas, and short stories.

Our creed: “Give critique, not criticism.”

Our events are free and open to serious writers. You must be 17 or older to attend. You need not be a published author or experienced at critiquing. We believe everyone, novice or veteran, can offer valuable insight into a fellow writer’s work. No need to sign up early; just take a look at our guidelines and stop by.

Here’s the when and where of it. We hope to see you there!
